Walking the Walk...Weight Watchers Article

Well, a Starlo's Cockapoo by the name of Lucy is encouraging folks to take their dogs for a walk to lose those extra pounds! That's right, in the September-October 2007 issue of Weight Watchers, Lucy is pictured in the upper left hand corner in a pane of four dog photos. She helps her owner Alan Biederman and his family keep in shape.

I thought you might like to see what Darby looks like now that she turned 7 yrs old yesterday (July 2, 2008). She is still the best little gal in the world. I am also attaching a picture of Docker (he’ll be 6 on Nov. 2). He is such a lover—so, so sweet!

Hope all is going well with you.

Ruby at the office...

Dear Debbie,
Hello Debbie. Hope you and your family have been doing well.
I just wanted to send you a cute picture of Ruby's.
My girls and I were out of town for 2 months and my husband and whole his office workers took care of her. We missed her so much but it seems like Ruby had a great time. Gun brought her to his office regularly and she loved running around and enjoyed attention.
By the time we came back everybody fell in love with her and now she is like an office mascot!!
We have been having so much fun with her since she had joined our family. I can not ask a better puppy. She has a wonderful personality, so sweet, patient, and friendly. and very smart!
I was talking to some of Gun's coworkers and they were very interested in talking to you to have a cockapoo like Ruby. and I am too.. I wish I could have an another puppy. If you have any advise on it please let me know.
Thank you so much for everything and I hope you are having a great summer.

Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum) IS Deadly To Dogs...

Warning to all dog owners:
Last Friday evening, I arrived home from work, fed Chloe, our 24 Lb
dachshund, just as I normally do. Ten minutes later I walked into the den
just in time to see her head inside the pocket of Katie's friend's purse.
She had a guilty look on her face so I looked closer and saw a small package
of sugar-free gum. It contained xylitol. I remembered that I had recently
read that sugar-free gum can be deadly for dogs so I jumped on line and
looked to see if xylitol was the ingredient. I found the first website below
and it was the one. Next, I called our vet. She said to brin g her in
immediately. Unfortunately, it was still rush hour and it took me almost 1/2
hour to get there. Meanwhile, since this was her first case, our vet found
another website to figure out the treatment. She took Chloe and said they
would induce her to vomit, give her a charcoal drink to absorb the toxin
(even though they don't think it works) then they would start an iv with
dextrose. The xylitol causes dogs to secrete insulin so their blood sugar
drops very quickly. The second thing that happens is liver failure. If that
happens, even with aggressive treatment, it can be difficult to save them.
She told us she would call us.

Almost two hours later, the vet called and said that contents of her
stomach contained 2-3 gum wrappers and that her blood sugar had dropped from
90 to 59 in 30 minutes. She wanted us to take Chloe to another hospital that
has a critical care unit operating around the clo c k. We picked her up and
took her there. They had us call the ASPCA poison control for a case number
and for a donation, their doctors would direct Chloe's doctor on treatment.
They would continue the iv, monitor her blood every other hour and then in 2
days test her liver function. She ended up with a central line in her
jugular vein since the one in her leg collapsed, just as our regular vet had
feared.

Chloe spent almost the entire weekend in the critical care hospital.
After her blood sugar was stabilized, she came home yesterday. They ran all
the tests again before they released her and so far, no sign of liver
damage. Had I not seen her head in the purse, she probably would have died
and we wouldn't even had known wh y.

Three vets told me this weekend, that they were amazed that I even
knew about it since they are first learning about it too. Please tell everyone you know about xylitol and dogs. It may save another life.

Dolly Martinez, The Huntress...

Hi Debbie,
This is an updated picture of Dolly Martinez. She is now 1 1/2 yrs old living with us in Tracy California. She is from Starlos's Jingle Bell and Candi's Kiss litter back in Dec 2006.
She is a wonderful dog, very healthy and happy. She ended up being about 13 pounds which is just the right size for me. She loves to hunt birds, bugs, anything that moves. She is very intelligent and loving. I am so glad that we adopted her from Starlo's I can't imagine our life without her.

Pawnee's Little Wrangler...

Now I know first hand how adorable these little Cockapoos can be! From the time I first laid eyes on "Wrangler", at the airport, he has wiggled his way into my heart!! The ladies that brought him out to the lobby told me that I could leave him with them if I wanted to...NOT A CHANCE!!!

Wrangler is a 1st Generation, CCA American Cockapoo, born to Starlo's Pawnee and Starlo's Lil' Jingle Bell on March 10th. His sister is pictured in the last post!

I get to take him to work with me and he is a perfect angel. He stays in his crate quietly watching me until he gets to come out. He loves to sleep on his back and a couple of times I have looked over to find him and his little "goatee" upside down.

I will be making him a blanket, vest, cushion for his bed, leash, wild rag and halter out of "Wrangler" jeans! He will be riding on the "West of the Pecos Rodeo" Committee float during our 126th annual rodeo at the end of the month. I will take pictures to post!

Pawnee's Little Chloe...

Hi Debbie. Chloe is doing great. It’s hard to believe we have had her only a week. Her first vet visit and shots went well. She never even whimpered. She loves the backyard and she and my cat Benny are slowly getting to know each other. I haven’t received the contract yet. I’ll keep my eye out for it. Thanks again.

Pawnee's Little Chloe
Editor's Note: Chloe was born on March 10, 2008. She is the daughter of Starlo's Pawnee and Starlo's Lil' Jingle Bell and is a first generation, black and white CCA American Cockapoo.

MoJo, the Social Butterfly...

Mojo, A Sable Starlo's Cockapoo
Hi...I'm MoJo.
I am a Libra (like my Human Mama). I am cute and quite the social butterfly. For the most part I cooperate very well as long as it is friendly but if it turns out to be unfriendly, I can be very obstinate and determined. As a Libra, I do not like to be alone for long periods of time so I get depressed when my Mom and Dad are at work and I am home alone. I love playing ball in the yard, going on road trips and long walks with anyone who will take me.

Maxine Ruff
Oregon

Breeder's Note: MoJo was born on September 26, 2005 to Starlo's Candi Kiss and Starlo's Lil' Jim Dandy. Therefore he is a first generation, sable Starlo's Cockapoo!

Bringing Nothing But Joy...

Hi Debbie,
Almost four years ago we visited you and brought home
Cody. He is a first generation cockapoo, apricot.
He is smart, affectionate, funny, naughty at times and
very spoiled. As I type this he insists on sitting on
my lap so he can take a nap. He brings nothing but joy
into our lives.
It was quiet a trip for us but we thank you every day.
